The Parish Pastoral Council held its monthly meeting on 11th May, with the following items on the agenda.
MATTERS ARISING
Safeguarding: Garda Vetting is sorted but Ruth Murphy and Miriam Judge have not yet received certs in relation to training completed.
Building: Fr Stephen advised the following:
Automated gate Sensor was struck a second time by a vehicle. Kieran Jennings has since relocated the sensors to a safer position on the pillars.
Sandwich board is working well for parking during funerals and weddings
Steel shelving was erected in the new storage shed, and Crib figures etc are now stored there.
Painting of sacristy to commence soon ahead of carpet laying. Adrian Brennan will fit new presses. New carpet will be laid in the gallery and stairs.
Fr Stephen did not get a chance to follow up on the cleaning of the exterior of the Church (stone works).
Funeral Ministry
Two training nights are scheduled on 9th June in Westport Plaza Hotel and 17th June in Menlo Park Hotel. Different parishes are coming onboard, e.g. Ballinrobe to set up this important ministry, which is working out well in our Parish.
Holy Week and Easter
All ceremonies went well….Great to have people from the funeral ministry for the washing of feet.
Books ordered in February for the children of the parish, which were due to be distributed at Easter, arrived late due to world trade restrictions. They will be held in storage until next Easter
FIRST COMMUNION
23 Children from the Parish will receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday next 16th May at 11am. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Community Hall. Preparation outing to Knock with the children receiving their First Communion went very well. Tour of Museum was organised, they visited the Apparition Chapel and listened to the Story of Knock. Altar Breads were sourced from the Redemptorist Nuns in Dublin to show the children on the day. Eileen Jordan, Ruth Murphy, Anne Lyons and Kristina Vichovic are available to set up the Hall for refreshments after the Holy Communion ceremony on Saturday and will be there from 10am. Cupcakes will be arranged for the children on their return to school the following Tuesday. Adam and Anna Kaczmarek of AK Photography will be set up in the Community Hall for photographs and will take group photo in the Church.
CORPUS CHRISTI
6th June 2026
Final Grow in love Mass will be held on this date.
Procession
Julia Kelly updated the meeting with regard to organising the Procession.
AOB
Siobhan Conlon asked if the bench located outside of church boundary wall was erected by the Church, as it appears to be a meeting point where individuals sit and drink and loiter. It was pointed out that this is not Church property and contact could be made with Mayo County Council regarding same.
Julia Kelly advised that a Parishioner raised the issue of poor lighting in Blessed Sacrament Chapel and said that it was hard to read. Fr Stephen emphasised that sensor lights are in operation in that Chapel. Plug in reading light will be dropped in by A Phillips to the Chapel for use as required.
Faith and Light national pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sat 16th May with Mass at 1pm
Meeting concluded at 9.40pm
Date for next meeting agreed 15th June
