At Masses this weekend, Fr. Stephen will speak about Funeral Ministry teams being established in a number of parishes, including Ballyhaunis. The Church recommends that, when no priest is available for prayers in a funeral home or the home of the deceased or for graveside prayers, a lay person can preside. Parishes are now considering how to prepare people for this Ministry, working alongside the priest. It may also involve visiting bereaved families and assisting in choosing Readings & Prayers for the Funeral Mass. Brochures are now available in the Church porch, and we would ask you to take one home and consider nominating someone in the parish who you believe would be suitable for this Ministry.
